Had a contract offer with someone. All was good. The feedback was that they were very interested in the offer, infact it was ABOVE expectation, green ticks all over.

Left it a day. Went back to it before it expires and they decide, and added another 20k to their salary offer for safe measures. Even though they were happy with my current offer.

You'd think they'd be better adding MORE money, right?

WRONG.

Absolutely wrong, and full proof the current system is not quite right.

They now aren't interested. Because I added 20k to their pot, despite being happy with 20k LESS, and still with all green ticks there are seemingly points they aren't happy with.

Explain THAT. Totally illogical.

I remember Frank stated that offering a contract to any one that far exceeds their expectations then they start to question why you are offering so much and it has a negative impact.

I bet if you lower the offer they will be happy about the offer again!!

Or Did their power position change due to someone else offering a contract?

Ok guys these are really pissing me off now - i dont mind paying more even stupid amounts more if i want that driver but i don't expect morale to drop after signing a new contract for loads more cash 1 week after!!!

My 1st driver - who isn't anyware near as good as my previous 1st driver he was my second last season was on a stupidly low contract - so clearly would want a new one. He is young and i couldn't get anyone better so decided to run with him for next few seasons and see how he develops. He accepted a 300k wage with good bonuses - more than i think he is worth but i wanted him to stay so i paid. The second driver i have is no ware near as good as him talking 8 tenths off his pace all through last 2 weeks testing. Now first driver is slightly annoyed by contract and morale has dropped - my second driver has just outqualified him to my utmost surprise!!!! it must be morale cause by not being happy with contract he signed last week!!!!!

this is a bit stupid

To defy all possible logic further, they (expectedly) rejected the higher offer. I approached again with even less than the original offer they approved of, which they approved and signed with me lol.

Makes no sense at all. Kinda good for the random element, but worrying all the same if people are feeling they have no option but to throw big piles of money.

Maybe there is a flaw whereby the reject a contract if the money is too much but there is no way of telling you this? Sounds silly but i have no idea how Frank has structured the system...

Might be like was suggested above, there is the element of over-flourishing the salary.

Like if someone gave you £1000 and a new car for your birthday from someone who usually sends £10 and a card - you stop and think hang on... and question it.
