Any reason two weight units are used in the car build page? Would it not be simpler to use all lbs or kgs so we don't have to convert the two?

Check your settings (Account>Settings). In the Regional Settings the option exists to set "System of Measurement." This will be the measurement of the weight of your car and components. It does not affect the units of weight or volume for fuel, so you are probably best off to set it to Metric.
