Quick question, all my research levels are starting on terrible. I guess this has something to do with me deleting all blue prints a day before the new changes so there was nothing to base the new level on (yeah silly thing to do but i wasn't expecting the change)

If i take a current part which research level its bad(4) and research is terrible(1). Im going to have to build the research level up to bad to make any improvement? Or am i miss understanding?

my understanding from what I have seen since doing some development today is you will need to get it above Bad before you see any improvements. Doing any current development with the research level lower then the part value will only make the part worse.

Think of the research aspect as the amount of time before you need to do an complete revolutionary design rather then a evolutionary design.

Research is more like the potential the part can grow based on how well your development team understand and knows how to build that part so if it's terrible then you need to increase their knowledge before they can design better blue prints or increased development.

How long does it take to increase research levels I am currently unsure!!

Sounds good. Should stop us having to design more and more parts and thus hopefully cut down on testing costs as we won't need to test in order to get an idea of the design teams potential for that part?

ok thanks for your help.

I'm screwed this season then depending how long it takes to research a part - should never have deleted all my s2 blue prints lol

Luke, I've done a recalc of your research levels without excluding the deleted development projects. It would've taken you quite a while to get back up there otherwise.

If your research is terrible, and you start a project. Then you will never have a very good part (as in a very good part, not the stat) because the research level plays a big role in the calculation of the part.

So I seeing that we need to do a lot less development but a lot more research to get the parts calculation up (Potential) then continue to push development as long as we don't need to start a new blue print or it's going to be develop, research, develop research taking longer to getting to an all superb car.

But it is way more realistic from what I have seen so far as you can either research for years with terrible results on the track but really start pushing development or make small increase on & off the track at the same time.

This might open up sandbagging a bit the way I see it but it depends on the way you want to approach development now.

yes it seems ok - only thing i dont like is that its limited to how good your designer is - in pitwall one a better designer was important but you could get to where you need to be by spending more money to catch up.

Right now I have several parts that have better potential level than the research level is. If I continue developing those parts without doing any research, will they actually reach that potential level or will they be limited to the research level? And I'm talking about there being a difference of up to 3 levels between potential and research.

Ok - Frank can you clarify this for me - If i have a part that has a potential of Superb and rating of good, but the reasearch level is very good then if i develop the part it won't improve as the research level will drop down to the same as the part 'good' and unless i can improve the research to superb it wont get any better?
