It's a good move - something I suspected in my team of not realising and not seeing contracts signed long ago and the reason I asked for the forthcoming in/out staff roles to be shown on the staff list.
I assume staff are released without a cost penalty in that case of implementing this system mid-game?
I think the main reason for this system was to stop inactive teams from employing staff. If you think about it.. teams that have gone bankrupt will likely have good, overly paid staff. But it will also deal with any problems of hoarding of staff.
I am not sure about other staff, i.e. designers not kept busy somehow.
Daniel, I believe the missed races would be missed a race where staff/driver was in correct role. So designers not assigned as head designer will get a missed race to their names etc.
this sounds good, only thing I see might be a problem is lets say I have a average designer and then I get a second designer and use them to design a chassis that takes weeks, I might lose my first designer. as in like sponsers the better they are the less weeks you can miss
would all depend on how many races they can miss. A chassis takes 3-4 weeks for me, brand new. So as long as they could miss 5 races, then I'd be fine.
Will a non assign staff member still progress in stats? I would be a bit worried if the missed races thing could potentially stop teams from getting staff on their books that they think will get better. I can see hoarding the good staff may be an issue but there must be a better way. How about at a certain age their stats drop off quickly as they are not using their knowledge. That way younger drivers could still progress as the would be "learning from senior staff" and better staff who are generally older would start to become less useful and a waist of money if sitting on the bench . Would also reward teams that take a risk on a younger staff member who potentially may end up being superb
Don't know about staff, but I know Drivers drop off at the end of their careers (or atleast I think they do).
I don't think staff that are 'sitting on the bench' improve their stats, but that depends on what position they are employed in. Designers can still work when not head designer, and scouts also. Don't know about mechanics, commercials and coaches though.
I know drivers that are younger improve quicker then older drivers but this was fixed a bit by allowing a feeder system where older drivers can take part to mimic F1 a bit with good drivers with superb potential being able to race the feeder system to gain experience and skills.
Main drivers also increase based on amount of laps in practice, qualifying & race.
All drivers have a point were they will stop increase and will start decreasing with a random element added when the driver was created by the game. It is why we see some drivers retire when they are 35 and some much older.
As for staff I know they increase the more they do their jobs; produce or develop more parts increase your mechanic and designer. Work more sponsorship & suppliers deals and increase your commercial but do the decrease at some point? This I am also unsure of as it hasn't really been an issue but I know Frank wanted similar scripts for all personnel so I am guessing they do!!
