The last lap fuel required does not make sense.
For example during testing on a 12 lap stint with a fuel usage of 5 litres per lap, i only need 60 litres, (not counting the extra 1 or 2 litres added for safety).
In a 52 lap race & i make my last stop on lap 40, you would think i only need to add the above fuel to finish, but the last lap required says otherwise.
I need to add another 5 litres to finish the last lap, making it 65 litres instead of 60 litres to do 12 laps.
When the race is over, my cars still show the last lap of fuel in their tanks.
So am i to disregard the last lap fuel required?
Edit* If i added 62 litres to do the last 12 laps, it will show on the last lap that i have 2 litres left, just like it shows on a pitstop lap, but the fuel required says 5 litres.
The required does make sense, for the final lap it's the amount required for that lap. The fuel estimate is a bit misleading though as that means at the end of the lap...
Dont trust a computer with your important strategy!!!!!!!! work that out yourself i don't even look at that new box! - and i ran out of fuel last race ahhemm.
Thank you James for making it clear. Ok, now i understand that the estimate is what i would (suppose to) have left in my tank at the end of the final lap & the required is only telling me what i need to have to complete the final lap. Now i know why that instead of having 2 litres in my tank after the race, i have 7 litres because i was adding the required to the estimate. Explains why i have been slower on my final stint. What a ballsup.
I think something went awry for me yesterday. I have never run out of fuel before. I took a screenshot of the page concerned and it says fuel estimate was 2.5L at end of the last lap.
Now is this still an estimate or an actual figure (as the lap had been raced)? I assumed you got the actual figures after the end of the lap, i.e. track conditions etc. If so, there was a bug, surely?
Of course, the stuff in my car (fuel weight was at 0 or less) indicates otherwise.
Yes, unfortunately Michael it is just an estimate. During the race it only estimates what you should have in your tank rather than what you actually have left. The fuel differs for every lap but the estimate from testing will display the same. So you must have been using more than expected during the the race or the last stint which is proven by your car's fuel weight.
On the other hand i must have been using less fuel than expected during the last race as my estimate on the last lap was suppose to be 2.2 ltr for both drivers but ended up being 4.2 ltr on my final fuel weight.
I have spoken to Frank about it when it happen to me once during a race (through a help desk ticket) & he said, I always make sure I am with +5 to be sure.
That all being said:
* Fuel consumption will be reviewed and tweaked soon;
* I will add an even more advanced fuel chart for supporters soon as well.
The thing is that the estimate changed as the race progressed. I left 1 litre as a surplus in my starting strategy, though at the end of the race it had risen to 2.5. So if the estimate is changing upwards....?
I am cool with it. I was out of the points anyhow and, to be honest, I left a smaller buffer than I do normally, so it kind of feels fair.
