Maybe there should be a salary cap for each division so new teams aren't able to offer ridiculous amounts. Maybe in Div 1 you can remove salary cap but div 2 and 3 should probably be capped

The problem with caps Lukas is teams that promote. If you're stuck with useless staff because you are in Div 3 and are priced out of better staff, your car and team will be full of people unable to compete in Div 2 because you can't actually hire anyone better.

Maybe the salary cap doesn't have to be division specific but maybe could be driver specific like 25 % more of what the driver's top expectations are or something like that. So if a driver expects 80,000 - 100,000 as weekly wage the most someone could offer them would be 125,000 a week.

The other problem is when teams relegate and no longer fit the cap, they lose the person and are screwed.

Doesn't the driver professionalism characteristic play a major part in negotiations? A driver with a high professionalism rating shouldn't sign a contract purely based on the amount of money they are offered.
Even if they are offered a salary of 2 ill a week, if the team is not rated high enough by the driver, they do not sign because the team isn't good enough?

Lukas, the problem with that sort of cap is that the more drivers that get stupid wages, the higher the cap keeps getting for everyone. So in effect that sort of cap is kind of useless because it doesn't stop the problem of people just outright buying up any driver/staff to massive contracts still. It lessens it yes, but it won't stop it.

Revert back to dissect my suggestion of having some sort of 'salary balance' in your finances.

You can only offer contracts, if say, you have the finances to pay either a full season of wages for that driver; or x% of the season in advance.

ie, offering a £1m a week contract if your balance says £8m isn't going to work.

So there could be a system that disables you making that option from the start.

Or signing drivers means you pay for 25% their full season fee immediately. This stops teams signing and sacking so many drivers every day; and stops signing a £2m a race driver if it costs them £12 right away.

Dan, I agree with the 25% but I have seen bonuses for sign as high as 50% in other games but this would be negotiated with the driver.

Basically if X driver wants Y contract length then he gives you less of a bonuses for signing since the risk/reward of signing with your team is less; usually short term contracts with long term contracts being a bigger gamble for the driver.

This would remove teams signing a top flight driver to multiple year contracts or think twice since the signing bonuses would be very large based on their contracted wants. This could be an option to try to limit inactive teams or start up teams from signing the best drivers to long term contracts at least.

I also agree that a team would need the physical money on hand for the signing bonuses otherwise they wouldn't be allowed to sign x driver.

I would also like to add a feature to this a bit as well since your youth drivers or drivers that have worked with you for X years should have a relationship with you and would maybe; not always; give you a smaller signing bonuses since the risk of working with you is less due to past relationships. This would allow teams to keep youth drivers without having to sign them with a bonus.

Other options is to have the team with the youth drivers not pay a bonus at all until over the age of 19 years old but all other teams would have to pay the signing bonuses as say a poaching fee!!
