Frank has said there are still gains to be made from 95 to 100%. But of course, would you not be better at trying a wholly new project rather than getting that extra %.
Personally.. I take the view that when you have parts at excellent you are trying to get to superb, or you have limited potential.. stopping too quickly does seem to stop you tipping into the next band. Though a wholly new part and design you can stop soon after reaching 95% as it will have tonnes of potential anyhow.
I've pretty much got to the stage now where I can't develop any more, since my parts have reached their potential and my research levels are all much lower than the part ratings.
My experiment with 45 people researching Steering System has not yielded results thus far.
James, I am at the same point and I also agree that we are all still missing something since I was thinking about this a bit more and Frank stated that junior staff will play a huge role and most of what I think to be true isn't taking junior staff into consideration. They are not implemented so hard to understand the factors these might have on the results we are seeing or going to see in the future.
Either I have data that is currently true but will not be true in the near future with implemented junior staff effects or my data is false which is causing the whole understanding of the research to be complete unknown.
I am leaning one way but may never know depending on changes Frank makes by season end.
Mine are all stuck at Very Good now for the past 2 weeks... going to try and put a large number of designers on one part and see if I can push it higher.
I said this before, it might even be exponential, to the point reaching superb is either impossible, or it just takes so long / you reach it very briefly before it drops right away.
Unless you are investing literally everything, in which case you can keep it superb, but at the grand expense of other levels dropping all the time.
Therefore all superb design research is relatively impossible.
This would be good, as some teams will have great wings and diffusers, but maybe bad elecrics.
Other teams might just opt to be average all rounders etc.
I think you have the main idea of the what Frank was trying for with specialized areas of a team or having all rounders but I am not sold that is the way it works yet.
My research levels have gone up to that of my head designer and yes every stage seems to take longer then the next so going from terrible to okay is faster then good to very good but this also makes sense.
I am not raising my research levels that high since most of my parts are better then my head designer but the few that I am raising and developing work as expected. They simple take longer then I would like!!
