Just though i would see what system (if any) people use to name there designs, as in my division i can see there are many ideas. Just curiosity really.
I use this:
two letter abbreviation - season part is for - version - revision
i.e
FW-02-02-01
Next season it could be:
FW-03-02-02 or FW-03-03-01
depending if i start a new design or improve a current version
I use a similar system. My parts are named as follows"
H - designator for my team 3 -season part is for G - part type designator (none for Chassis) s - special designator for Chassis and Fuel tanks which has different sizes 1 - major season variant designator. If I do a totally new design for a part it becomes 2 (etc.) for that season a - revision designator for parts that are based on pre-exisig parts for that season.
For example, Next year's chassis is H3m1 (for medium wheelbase). There could also be an H3s1 and an H3l1.
Next season's Gearbox will be the H3G1 and a replacement based on it would be the H3G1a. However a Gearbox built from scratch would be the H3G2.
Mine's similar to yours Luke, my Front Wings are one or two letters for the part then a space, the season number, and if a revision/update/etc it will have a letter after it. I start at A, and if I make a new design, it'll be Z and go the other way. Any extra designs and it becomes AA or ZZ etc
Mines is simple: Team abbreviation: WCCN or part name: Gearbox Season the part was built: 001; 002; 003 Major Variant or new part variant: 001 < 099 Updates or revision designator: a - z
Chassis for next season is: WCCN-003-001 as this need to be built new every season even if based off an old chassis.
But parts can range as follows: Gearbox-001-001d Gearbox-002-001c Gearbox-002-002
This how every does get confusing at times since the season doesn't really need to be there so I consider changing simple to part names, and revision.
Not really.. I use L then a shorthand for the part say FW. The a number 1 season then two digits (not sure why) for the design evolution. A letter is also needed when you branch off in a new direction.
So LRW-200 then LRW-201.. or LRW-200a for an alternative
Part = GEAR,FW,RW,SP (abbreviation)
_Underscore Season = 02
.Point Then I use a letter for brand new parts (A, B and C) so If i'm not happy with a part during a season and i build a new one it gets a B.
.Point
A number for version. It starts with a 1 and for every evolution its increased.
I used to call the cars Spyker_F8-II.3 (because the car manufacturer used all the letters until F for their cars in the last 100 years. F would be nice for F1 ofcourse aswell. The '8' is for the amount of cilinders in the engine and the roman number is for the year/season. After the point (1,2 or 3) the number shows wich car it is.)
