The ability to buy out the remainder of a future drivers contract would be nice too, if the current team is not going to use them then it would avoid them being wasted
Tom, the problem with that scenario is people making multiple accounts to 'buy out' drivers from their main account in order to make money.
It's a nice idea I agree, but with games like this, you always have to be very careful because someone will always try and do this kind of thing. I remember in PW 1.0 when someone was attempting to sign all the available drivers/staff, that's why Frank brought in the feelings about the driver and if you have too many unassigned drivers/staff.
John, your not running that driver is up to you, but if the driver is still faster than than whoever you are racing instead, it's just hurting you.
I have one of my drivers that is moving teams next season, but he hasn't raced, only because i run too many drivers right now, and am choosing the fastest 2 each week.
Having a system for early release of staff/drivers that is fair, and can't be abused, is something that will require a lot of working out.
if the driver has a race seat contract and is no longer being allowed to race the team is in breach of contract and should be forced to pay compensation to the driver!

If I remember correctly it wasn't due to someone attempting to sign all the available drivers but rather we had a transfer system where drivers could be sold/transferred between teams. This meant sign all the drivers that where close to All Superb & then transferring them for extra cash.
It was fairly easy to do since at the time new drivers came out every Tuesday with the nightly update. So you scouted and signed them within the first hour & all the best drivers to simple sell them on.
We then tried simple changing when the drivers would come able; which made it fairer but still had the same issue with manager exploiting the transfer system.
Which then caused the remove of the transfer system and brought the changes to the way drivers sign contracts.
I would like to see a transfer system or break contract aspect but understand why we don't!!
I remember seeing a guy who had signed about 30 drivers already and was negotiating with about 10 more just before Frank changed things. So the driver hog may not have been the only culprit, but just one of a few. He wasn't selling them on yet.
