Right, some time has passed since this happened, so no knee jerk reactions.
What I want to know is, how many of you think Max or Grosjean are responsible and why.
Also, have you actually looked at the comparative video footage that clearly shows Grosjean slowing earlier than previous laps?
For my money, Max was the victim here. Why? he got brake tested, the video doesn't lie. However, Grosjean didn't get penalised because he wasn't braking earlier, which means he was lifting and coasting, an even worse thing to do.
Why is Max penalised then? Sadly I'm coming further and further to the conclusion that it's the powers that be. They blamed Max right away, and followed it up with a penalty because he's "the 17 year old that's too young for F1". If they'd backed Max's side, they'd have to admit that everything they've now thron in place in a rush to stop younger drivers getting to F1 isn't actually needed, because talent and age are not the same thing. Nor is the composure of a driver and their age.
I was watching the race live and I watched the accident unfold like most here but I noticed right away that Grosjean also defended to the inside more while coasting into the corner so not only a different braking points (reduction of speed point) but also a different line caught Max out.
Grosjean just happened to do it again today to Lewis in P2 but Lewis was able to avoid him.
Sadly still I think even though Grosjean played a huge role in the crash it's still up to Max not to crash into him similar to the stupid rear ending rule we have in Canada where if you hit someone from behind it's 100% your fault. This rule cause more crashes and bigger crashes as guys will brake check each other on the hwy to show that they didn't like what the other guy did but as the guy being braked check if your going to be 100% at fault then you try to destroy the other guys car if you cannot avoid the accident.
A youtube video the other week was case and point.
I thought exactly the same with that line he took also. I don't think Max could have avoided it though, with Grosjean's line, and slowing so early, there really wasn't anywhere to go for Max unless he wanted to put it in a wall on the pitstraight first.
its not just canada - i would have thought most country's use it as the only reason you would not be able to stop in time is if you were driving to close to the car in front.
I think Grosjean was playing a game and ended up getting himself taken out of the race because Max is not used to his stupidity
I was at Spa in 2012 and saw Grosjeans crash at the start, it's like he doesnt understand the unwritten rule about leaving space, he just puts his car where he wants and does what he wants and thinks it's not dangerous. Most of the other drivers think he is a fool although in the incident at Monaco it's very hard to prove he was being the fool once again.
Max will bounce back, i think for a frigging 17 year old he has done really well so far.
100% Verstappen's fault. Grosjean didn't break test him. Lift & coast is normal with these hybrid cars. If Verstappen can't handle that then he should be driving somewhere else.
Well in a timely manner Grosjean went and proved me right by misjudging the size of his car yet again, god knows what he was playing at when cutting back in front of Stevens...
And yes Juuso lift and coast is normal but not when you have a car right behind you wanting to overtake, not a single driver in F1 would do that even if told by their team. You would effectively be handing the place to the guy behind you or in Grosjeans case inviting them to crash into you?
Yesterday was stupid from Grosjean, but I still cant see what wrong he did in Monaco. He wasnt brake testing or anything like that. Actually braked later than the lap before. It was Verstappen who misjudged the situation. IMO.
Yeah, I couldn't understand why he was saying "He hit me!" on the radio. About Grosjean-Verstappen, to be honest I did Grosjean slower and that Verstappen couldn't avoid him easily. But even if it is Verstappen's fault, I don't understand why suddenly everyone stood up and remembered that he's too young. It was an accident that everyone can do. His age doesn't have to do with it.
