The FIA has confirmed a new pole position trophy will be introduced from the 2014 season onwards.

An updated version of the 2014 Sporting Regulations has been released by the FIA, with article 6.7 reading: "A trophy will be awarded to the driver who sets the most pole positions during the championship season (see Article 36.2). In the event of a tie the holder of the greatest number of second places will be taken into account and, if there is still the tie, the holder of the greatest number of third places and so on until a winner emerges.

"If this procedure fails to produce a result, the FIA will nominate the winner according to such criteria as it thinks fit."

Another addition sees drivers having to ensure their allocated number "is clearly visible … on the driver's crash helmet", with drivers selecting the number they will use throughout their career. The numbers will be allocated by ballot, with the reigning world champion given the option to carry the number one. "The number that was previously allocated to him will be reserved for him in subsequent seasons if he does not retain the title of world champion".

The regulations also included the new points system which will see double points scored at the final race of the season. Previously approved items such as the driver penalty points system have also been included.

I don't really get this number aspect in F1 as it hasn't been around for years so no offence I really don't think I will really think of Nico Hulkenberg driving the number 27 car but rather he is in one of the Force India cars.

Number 27 will always been known for Gilles!!
