i thought the potential stayed the same but the current value dropped. - seems really confusing and annoying that potential changes as well

Of course the potential drops as well. Imagine a plan that was made in 1975. It wouldn't make sense that a part from back then would still be superb today.

If you have "quick drops" then it means that you're on a low value of that level yes. Imagine it as being 90.1 and you drop to 89.9 or something. Rather than being at 99.2 and taking much longer to drop to sub 90.

Does the drop rate vary depending on the part type Frank? It seems I'm seeing faster drops on some rather than others (from a similar starting point).

Not yet at the moment. But that's planned to be introduced.

From the evidence I'm seeing, part potential doesn't drop when a part is being developed.

I.e. I develop a part based on an existing part with 'Very Good' potential.

During development the original part potential drops down to 'Good'.

The new part is finished with a potential still at 'Very Good'. Is this by design, and is it exploitable by teams to maintain potential?

Frank, could you be so kind as to clarify if the number of designers or mechanics used to both develop a part not only affect the speed that it is made; but if it also affects the final quality?

ie, too many cooks spoil the broth...

@James I think this is by design, if you are designing a new part based on another it makes sense that the potential of that part would remain at the same level as when started, at times it can sometimes improve too as staff members become more aware of a part and how it works.

I really dont know how this all works! - this is coming from the research thread as well. My max research has suddenly jumped from very good to superb - great! but why? I have no idea all staff moral are the same and i have not changed anything else! Also some of my parts current rating has dropped - but the potential increased!!! I really have no idea anymore
